Testimonial: "When you are a beginner everyone is an expert"

When you are a beginner, everyone is an expert. I just had to share this testimonial from Stephen with all of you:

I bought a sporting shotgun back in February of this year to learn to shoot skeet, and the progression would then be on to sporting clays. It was the first time I had shot a shotgun in nearly 40 years.

As a new shooter, it seemed to me that almost everyone I met was an expert at sporting clays, (because nobody shoots skeet anymore, they would say). They easily pointed out everything that I was doing wrong. Each of them wanted me to see what they saw in feet/inches of perceived lead. One person would want me to do this and another would say, “No, that's not right; do it this way.”

As I was lying in bed one night, I remember hearing a song come on the radio with the lyrics “if you don't believe in anything, you'll fall for everything.” And so I had.

I knew from playing golf that as a beginner you can't teach yourself to play. It is so hard to unlearn bad habits. I researched my area for skeet and sporting clays instructors and coaches. I have taken seven lessons to date and shot almost 5,000 shells at clay targets.

I saw an advertisement for a meet and greet with Vicki and Gil Ash and the OSP (Optimum Shotgun Performance) system they teach. Being less than two hours away, I decided to go. I ended up ordering their three books and booking two days at the upcoming class to be held a month or so later.

They told me to practice the three-shell drill and flashlight drill every day for at least five minutes three or four times a day. I read the books and practiced the drills. It is now the end of July and I just spent two days with Gil, Vicki, and their son Brian learning the OSP system. This was more than just a shooting lesson, but a lesson for life.

As I remember some years ago when my divorce papers were finally signed, my life changed from that moment on. This would be my "new reality." And I feel this OSP system has also changed my life in so many ways. This, too, has become my new reality.

Thank you, Vicki, Gil, and Brian
